holy cow this is a pretty massive update but as i've scoured the internet for this in the past i've always seemed to come up empty finding it in any sort of complete form on the interweb. if you are not familiar with the jesus and mary chain then, well, i don't know what to say other than that i feel sorry for you nor do i know how to explain this band to you. cynical scottish rock that bridges the gaps between noise, new wave, punk, pop, and indie rock. the great thing about this collection is that it compiles b-sides and rarities and demos spanning across the entire time line of the band's existence. so if you've never heard them before there's a little bit of something for everyone in this. those of you who are seasoned fans are probably already familiar with this gem, but if not, prepare to get stoked on an all new level. pre-psychocandy demos. lots of alternate versions of already established JAMC classics and everything from temptations(my girl) to leonard cohen(tower of song) covers. the first two discs are pretty noisy and the last two discs are more dance and pop-like jams. so yeah, if you've never heard this band jump on this now and get into and go download "psychocandy" and "darklands". if you have, i don't have to tell you twice that this is a must have for the full JAMC experience. either way, fucking enjoy! watch this video and download all 4 discs below.
.i broke my own heart.
a self serving archive of rare finds, hypothetical mix tapes, albums i feel are too important to go unheard, show reviews, and other things i'd like to share with my friends and the rest of the willing world. let's boogie!

Sam Cooke - One Night Stand! Live at the Harlem Square Club 1963
well apparently i really missed the boat on this one. i recently found a copy of this in an old record store and as i'm typically wary of live recordings i put it on the turntable at the store to give it a listen and was completely floored. i've been a sam cooke fan for years, and have known most of these songs since i was a child listening to oldies radio in my parents car, but have just been wearing out the same "best of" cassette and anthology collection on my ipod for years. anyways, i thought i had stumbled across a real jewel until further research when i learned that it is already regarded as one of the best live recorded albums and top soul records ever cut. and rightly so, the energy on this record is insane. cooke's charisma reaches from beyond the grave and out of the speakers to transport you to what is, judging by the sound of the audience, one hell of a swingin' party.
this past fall i had the pleasure the pleasure of seeing a really nice 4 man production about the life of sam cooke performed by an acting troupe somewhat local to my area. you can find out more about that here: "Sam Cooke: Where You Been Baby?"

inaugural dance party mixtape
for my first post i figured i'd kick things off with a mixtape, which is probably what you will see the most on this blog as things go on. this is the stripped down version of a playlist i made for a dance party this past weekend that didn't pan out the way it was expected, so it never saw the light of day. i took some of the filler out as to not have an obnoxiously huge file/playlist. but, well, it still kind of is. mostly classic dancey punk ragers with some soul, rock n roll, and pop songs thrown in for good measure as well as a slow jam or two. some old, some new. i just wanna wanna have somethin to do. check it out and enjoy.

*note: i included a .m3u file to the .zip so open a new playlist in i-tunes and open that to get the order of songs as intended.
